Rinnai America Announces Wi-Fi Connectivity for Gas Tankless Water Heaters

Will streamline and improve customer service for dealers, and offer home connectivity for consumers

December 21, 2015

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Rinnai America announced it is introducing a wireless module and app for its gas tankless water heaters. By integrating Wi-Fi connectivity, new and existing residential and commercial Rinnai tankless water heaters, dating back as far as 10 years, can be monitored and controlled via smart devices for water heating management, control, and maintenance. The wireless module will be available through Rinnai America Corp.’s wholesale distribution early next year.

“Rinnai’s new tankless Wi-Fi capabilities allow consumers to further expand in-home connectivity of major appliances that shape their daily living habits, while also helping dealers develop deeper relationships with their customers by allowing them to communicate with each other more quickly and proactively — ultimately, providing their customers with peace of mind and enabling dealers to grow their business,” said Susan Mittelbrun, vice president of marketing at Rinnai America Corp. “Because the device directly links them to their customers, dealers can enhance solutions and services.”

The new Wi-Fi module, which can be bundled with a new Rinnai tankless water heater purchase, or installed on an existing model, attaches easily to the unit by a two-wire interface quickly connecting through the local Wi-Fi network. Once connected and the free Rinnai app is downloaded and activated, the Rinnai tankless water heater is associated to the Rinnai dealer, and monitoring and communications are initiated. Additionally, the user can control their tankless water heater from a smartphone or tablet to turn the system on and off, change the water temperature, monitor status, and activate the recirculation system.

For dealers, the wireless access serves as a remote diagnostics tool and saves time. The Wi-Fi module pushes system codes and other service information automatically to the dealer, either locally or remotely, allowing them to proactively contact their customers and know in advance service needs before ever leaving their place of business. Dealers are also able to reference diagnostic codes, product information, step-by-step instructions, with links to manuals, training, videos, and more.

“At Rinnai, we are committed to industry leadership in tankless water heating, meeting market demand and customer needs. Rinnai’s tankless water heaters have always been ‘smart’ products, but with the addition of Wi-Fi, smart just got even smarter,” said Joe Holliday, senior director of business development at Rinnai America Corp.
