ATLANTA — BACnet International has announced development of The BACnet Institute, an online center for educational resources. Its objective is to provide an easy path to BACnet information and learning for everyone involved with BACnet systems. Designed around BACnet community needs revealed in an extensive 2014 member survey, The BACnet Institute will curate existing information and resources, as well as commission the development of new resources. It will operate under the auspices of BACnet International in collaboration with other BACnet industry groups.

The BACnet Institute is being designed to broadly address BACnet education and information needs. It will encompass on-demand, self-paced courses alongside an organized repository of white papers, presentations, and recorded webinars. In addition, it will provide tools that allow participants to learn from each other as well as share their ideas, observations, challenges, and accomplishments.

“Investment in development of The BACnet Institute is undertaken with a long-term view of growing the community of BACnet users and implementers,” said Andy McMillan, BACnet International’s president and managing director. “It is an exciting opportunity to experiment with different ways of transferring BACnet knowledge in an effort to serve a wide range of users across multiple generations.”

Work is already underway on The BACnet Institute components, and it is expected that the first publicly available components will be completed and online by the end of 2015.

“The creation of The BACnet Institute and its included tools is a milestone for BACnet International,” said BACnet International board member Nancy Stein, who serves as director of product management for Siemens Building Technologies, Control Products and Systems (CPS) Business Unit. “Not only will The BACnet Institute be a comprehensive information resource, it also represents a meaningful strategic step for the association, underscoring the importance of addressing member needs through thoughtful and well-planned action.”
