GERMANTOWN, Md. — Earth Networks, parent company of the WeatherBug brand, announced that it has promoted Amena Ali to senior vice president and general manager of its WeatherBug Home business unit. In her new role, Ali will oversee business development, product offerings, market initiatives, and strategic partnerships for WeatherBug Home for both the enterprise and consumer markets. Ali joined Earth Networks in 2011 and previously served as chief marketing officer for the company.

According to Earth Networks, the WeatherBug Home unit integrates weather data, smart meter data, and consumers’ smart thermostats to drive home energy management, comfort, and savings for consumers. WeatherBug Home helps deliver energy efficiency and provides insights and alerts based on the weather, which drives 50 percent of home energy consumption, said the company.

“WeatherBug has long informed and alerted millions to the weather through our popular mobile and web applications,” said Ali. “Through WeatherBug Home, we can leverage our industry-leading data and analytics to offer a unique suite of energy efficiency, home comfort, and safety solutions. We’re using our big data know-how and partnering with leading connected home and Internet of Things providers — as well as utilities and retail energy providers — to offer personalized and actionable home energy insights, alerts, and tips to homeowners. That’s a powerful idea.”

WeatherBug Home utilizes the company’s comprehensive weather network to provide data from consumers’ neighborhoods to manage home energy utilization. For more information, visit www.weatherbughome.com.
