Condensate Monitoring Development Awarded

Safe-T-Switch SS610E Hailed as Gold Winner

By Angela D. Harris
July 22, 2013

RectorSeal delivered the gold-winning product in the Testing and Monitoring Products category of the 2013 Dealer Design Awards. RectorSeal’s Safe-T-Switch SS610E is an electronic condensate overflow switch that detects clogged a/c condensate drains and subsequently shuts off the system. The product is designed specifically for ductless mini splits.

According to the manufacturer, the small sensor on the product can fit in the confined internal spaces of most units. It can also be installed directly in the drain pan or clipped to the unit’s coils. SS610E’s CPU unit is housed in a casing that can be mounted directly to the side of the unit. The product’s logic circuit continuously samples the probes for water and will shut down the system if water is detected. Onboard LEDs indicate the condition of the unit at a glance, removing any guesswork for the contractor. The SS610 E will automatically reset once the water subsides, allowing the a/c to resume normal operation.

One contractor judge commented that he has used the item and it works well. “Safe-T-Switch is the most reliable condensate overflow switch available,” stated the manufacturer’s product literature. “This easy-to-install, uniquely designed, patented, magnetic reed switch will not stick or rust, and it can be connected to either the red or yellow thermostat wires.”

The Safe-T-Switch can be wired in both normally opened and normally closed systems. The product is no-moving-parts code compliant and tested to UL-508. No batteries are required.

On its website, the company offers wiring diagrams for use on equipment from Daikin, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Quietside, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Friedrich, Gree, SoleusAir, Lennox, American Standard, and Trane.

CoreSense™ Protection Module

Emerson’s SureSwitch™ relay, model number 49P11-843, replaces a system contactor and short-cycle timer with a reliable sealed relay. Designed to fit in the space of a traditional mechanical contactor, the SureSwitch relay is a universal electronic upgrade. CoreSense™ Protection for
Copeland Scroll™ compressors, model number ESC1AFPT-CC-901, incorporates the same features as the SureSwitch relay plus diagnostic capability and uses the compressor as a sensor to deliver active system protection. CoreSense Protection module and SureSwitch relay are aftermarket air conditioning and heat pump replacement contactors. Benefits of the SureSwitch relay include pest protection. The product is totally sealed to keep out ants and debris; no pest control treatments are needed. It stores system and fault history for download and offers the contractor the same wiring as a traditional contactor.
