CHANTILLY, Va. - The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) has announced the introduction of its first mobile app to enable contractors, engineers, architects, and designers to easily and accurately estimate the leakage of air from ductwork. SMACNA said the free app, for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, also provides a quick way to determine the pass/fail mark for properly specified duct air leakage tests (DALT) and generates a report that can be emailed directly from the app.

Users can combine multiple sections of ductwork that vary by size and shape to calculate total allowable leakage. The app uses the methodology found in SMACNA’sHVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manualand provides applicable leakage classes from the publication’s latest edition. The method complies with ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, IGCC Version 2, IMC, and the UMC.

To get the free app, download it from the iTunes store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dalc/id427624076?mt=8 (search on key word “SMACNA”), or go to the SMACNA website at www.smacna.org/dalt .

SMACNA said it will continuously update the app based upon user feedback. Further updates to enhance the reporting function and add links to other related technical publications are currently under development. The app will also be available for use on Blackberry and Android devices shortly. Send feedback and questions to info@smacna.org.
