Contractor Donates Profits to Veterans
Thompson Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling in Cincinnati presented a check to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for $22,470.
“Thompson Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling is proud to financially support these heroes who have helped keep our country free and safe, precisely at a time when others are cutting back on charitable giving,” said Wesley Holm, owner of Thompson Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling.
More than 100 attended the complimentary breakfast, held at Thompson’s headquarters, representing military veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Two major network news stations broadcasted live and were there to capture this first ever Veterans Day breakfast. Holm’s took charitable contributions to a national level by launching the first-annual “Disabled American Veterans Promotion” in honor of his father, father-in-law, Thompson’s veterans, and all military veterans. Loyal customers and community members united in the effort to do their part for the program.
“When this idea was brought forward to the leadership team, we were really excited to raise a lot of money for a great cause,” explained Lee Brooks of Thompson’s leadership team. “What shocked me personally was the outpouring of support from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky communities.”
Marc Burgess, assistant executive director of the DAV, accepted the check.
“This amount is inspiring,” he said. “It is the first check we have received like this all year.”
“This is an incredible contribution at a time when our nation’s disabled veterans and their families need our services more than ever,” said Richard E. Patterson, DAV’s national headquarters executive. “We were very pleasantly surprised to get such a generous donation from such a reputable local business. Thompson Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling will help us ensure veterans nationwide are honored for their service and sacrifices.”
Holm concluded the event by announcing that Thompson will be making this an annual fundraising event for the DAV, budgeting to raise over $30,000 in 2010.
