The Power-Pipe™ drain water heat recovery (DWHR) system is a scalable turnkey heat recovery technology that dramatically reduces water heating costs and can be used for both HVAC and plumbing, said the company. It raises the temperature of incoming cold water by recycling free heat from wastewater going down the drain. As water falls down a vertical section of drainpipe, it clings to the inner surface in a very thin film. The heat from this film is transferred easily and efficiently to the cold water circulating in the recovery system around the outside of the drainpipe. The incoming cold water is preheated before going into the water heater and plumbing fixtures. The system is made of copper. It has no moving parts or heating elements, so there is nothing to break down, and it has a self-cleaning design.
