WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Red River College of Applied Arts, Science, and Technology is offering a continuing studies course this fall that prepares students for the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) exams. Students can study air distribution, air conditioning, and gas heating, beginning with a core competency review of safety and fundamental principles. The classes cover topics such as heat and matter, basic gas laws, electrical conductors, electrical fundamentals, test instruments, transformers and motors, thermostats, IAQ, and more.

Those with at least two to three years of on-the-job trade experience may wish to challenge the exams. The program utilizes the NATE Reference Manual, which reflects the efforts of three major industry associations: the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association (PHCC), and the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES).

Classes begin Oct. 14, 2008 and run until Feb. 24, 2009. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m.
