DALLAS - HVAC Excellence, a technician certification organization, sponsored a press conference to assist in the launch of a new industry association, the Green Mechanical Council (GreenMech).

GreenMech puts the mechanical industry behind the green building movement.  Dan Chiles, chairman of the Green Mechanical Council, noted that, similar to the Leadership in Environmental Design (LEED) rating system for buildings, GreenMech will apply a 100 point system to identify green mechnical equipment.

Because this better equipment is more complex and requires better trained people, Ciles said, “We’re plased to be affiliated with HVAC Excellence” for this venture as well as Ferris State University.

The founding members of GreenMech include: Watts Radiant, HVAC Excellence, Legend Valve, the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters,  Mechanical Contractors Association of America/Mechanical Service Contractors Association/Mechanical Contractors Education and Research Foundation, Contractors Association of America, and Floor Heat Co. Chiles said that ASHRAE is also involved.
