Ecology Action, a provider of marketing and engagement programs for the implementation of energy efficiency and sustainability programs, announced that it has been chosen by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to administer its Complete Energy Solutions (CES) program.

Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.) has introduced the Smart Grid Advancement Act of 2013. McNerney said the bill is designed to move forward the development of a more efficient electrical grid, tasking states and utilities to establish goals for reducing electrical use during peak times through the use of smart grid technologies.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced an award of $10 million for six projects to help small commercial buildings save money by saving energy. The projects are aimed at developing user-friendly tools and resources that can be easily deployed at any small building.

Cleantech Group™, a global market intelligence firm covering the clean technology industry, reported that worldwide clean technology venture investment during the second quarter totaled $1.76 billion. Measured by dollars invested, cleantech venture investment grew 56 percent from the first quarter ($1.1 billion).

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and utility company NSTAR concluded the first phase of MIT Efficiency Forward — a multimillion-dollar pilot collaboration on energy-use reduction — and due to its success have signed a second agreement to renew the program through 2015. 

The Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) is considering changes to its specification on nonweatherized gas furnaces, and has requested comments from stakeholders, including the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). Comments are due by July 22. 

Research conducted by energy analysts with Tolin Mechanical and The Green Engineer has identified common pitfalls that cause many building construction projects to fall short of projected energy savings.
