DIMONDALE, Mich. — The Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA), a nonprofit organization, has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to deliver the DTE Energy SolarSchools® program to Michigan schools.

The program was developed to educate students in the fourth through eighth grades about the benefits of using solar energy. Hands-on demonstrations introduce students to alternate energy sources.

According to the association, the grant will allow the program to be delivered to 50 schools in 2003 and will help to get GLREA’s Michigan schools renewable energy education program off the ground.
