New Navien NPF Hydro-Furnace
Navien, the leader in condensing technology, brings our unparalleled expertise in hydronics to HVAC with the new NPF Hydro-furnace, setting a new standard in forced-air heating. The NPF is available in upflow and horizontal models, and 60,000 and 100,000 BTU/h sizes, with robust airflow ranging from 1.5 – 5 tons up to an inch of static pressure.
Utilizing some of the very same advanced technology behind Navien’s condensing tankless water heaters, combi-boilers and boilers, the NPF pairs our proven heat exchanger design with a hot water coil to create a forced-air furnace that provides consistent comfort, efficiency, and whisper-quiet operation.
Unlike traditional forced air furnaces, which burn gas within a heat exchanger that is in the conditioned air stream, the NPF heats water by burning the gas in a sealed combustion heat exchanger, completely isolated from the airstream. The heated water is then pumped through a hydronic heat exchanger that transfers the heat into the air. This unique method improves operational control, provides safe and even heating, and keeps operating sounds to a minimum. NPF uses a supply air temperature sensor in conjunction with an ECM variable speed blower to provide selectable airflow and discharge air temperature to meet the specific conditioned space requirement. The system constantly monitors and adjusts airflow, discharge air temps and heating capacity to provide comfortable, even temperatures.
Navien’s NPF is a powerful and highly efficient solution for forced-air heating applications, featuring a variable-speed blower and variable-capacity combustion system that allows it to operate from 15% to 100% capacity for both natural gas and propane applications. Variable capacity heating operation continuously monitors air temperatures and will automatically adjust burner operation and airflow to maximize comfort and efficiency. With this industry leading range of variable capacity, the two BTU/h sizes of the NPF can cover applications from 9,000-100,000 BTU/h. Created for high efficiency, all models are 97% AFUE and Ultra-Low NOx compliant, meeting the stringent requirements of SCAQMD rule 1111.
The NPF Hydro-furnace is designed with enhanced installation flexibility, allowing for automatic water fill or manual fill with a service-friendly water reservoir. On upflow models, gas, electric, water, and condensate connections are field convertible for the left or right side of the unit and return air can be brought into the unit on either side or the bottom to match existing ductwork. Adding to the installation flexibility – every unit includes the conversion kits required for propane or high elevation applications up to 10,100 feet. The NPF can be matched with any air conditioner or heat pump system and will provide dedicated airflow selections and ramping profiles.
A unit mounted EZNav® control panel with built-in Start-up Wizard provides simple, intuitive steps for startup, optional configurations, and diagnostics. The self-diagnostics provide a direct readout in clear text, indicating any diagnostic alerts or reminders saved in non-volatile memory. Each unit is compatible with most conventional single- and two-stage thermostats and does not require a special wall control. Users can keep the thermostat they’re familiar with while reaping the benefits of NPF variable capacity.
NPF users get peace of mind from the strong support and warranty that Navien is known for. Limited lifetime warranty on the combustion heat exchanger, 10 years for parts, and 1 year for labor to the original owner in residential applications with prompt registration.
