HVAC Product Roundup: January 2018

Atherion D cabinet
January 4, 2018

Modine Releases Atherion D Commercial Rooftop Unit

Modine Mfg. Co. introduced its Atherion D cabinet, an HVAC commercial rooftop unit with up to 60-ton capacity.

Expanding on the success of the Atherion B and C cabinets, the Atherion D cabinet greatly expands Modine’s offering by doubling the cooling capacity and nearly tripling the gas heating capacity.

“When it comes to HVAC unit cost-effectiveness, bigger is almost always better,” said Kimberly Raduenz, marketing communications manager for Modine. “A larger unit, like the 60-ton Atherion D cabinet, makes more financial sense than multiple smaller units when the building or application can handle the larger unit.”

The Atherion D cabinet comes with top-mounted PF™ Aluminum Microchannel condenser coils with electronically commutated condenser fan motors and right- and left-side access doors for ease of blower, filter, damper, and heat section maintenance.

The 30- and 40-ton units are available now, and the 52- and 60-ton units will be available in early 2018.

Designed for fast, inexpensive installation in high-rise applications, certain model sizes accommodate the 15-horsepower (hp) per circuit regulation common in many large cities, eliminating the need for costly 24/7 support.

“Our product team works hard to support our customers and their system design needs with ongoing product development like that of this AquaSnap 30MP,” said Chris Opie, director, North America commercial marketing. “Now with its ability to meet ASHRAE 90.1 efficiency requirements, and with certain model sizes 15 hp per circuit regulations, it can be a viable solution for tall buildings in even the largest U.S. cities. ”

Heatcraft Adds Low-temperature Models to Screw Compressor Condensing Unit Product Line

Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration released a low-temperature screw compressor condensing unit.

Grady McAdams, director of cold storage sales, Heatcraft, worked with the development team to communicate the need for a high-capacity condensing unit for low-temperature applications in the cold storage market.

“At Heatcraft, we believe that today’s innovation becomes the standard for tomorrow,” McAdams said. “Our customers asked for high-capacity performance and solid reliability of the equipment they invest in, and the low-temperature screw compressor condensing units deliver on both fronts.”

Air-cooled Scroll Chillers

York Expands Line of YLAA Air-cooled Scroll Chillers up to 230 ton

Johnson Controls Inc. has expanded its York® line of YLAA Air-Cooled Scroll Chillers up to 230 ton. The extended capacity of the YLAA offers a cost-competitive solution to 230-ton opportunities without sacrificing size, quality, and efficiency.

The YLAA (55-230 ton) offers full- and part-load efficiencies that meet or exceed ASHRAE standards. The units are stocked and shipped to locations in the U.S. within two to five days. Made to order options now include variable speed drive (VSD) condenser fans, which further enhance part-load efficiency and sound as well as integral pump packages to offer a single purchase, shipment, and installation solution. The scroll compressors have proven reliability, and the units are equipped with two independent circuits for partial redundancy. They also feature a brazed-plate heat exchanger, microchannel condenser, and native building automation system (BAS) communications, including BACnet®, Modbus, and N2.
