The expanded line of Duplex™ (dual compressor) EarthWise™ CenTraVac™ centrifugal chillers delivers greater energy efficiency and cost savings for applications requiring higher-tonnage capacities, the company said. The chillers now feature low-voltage, unit-mounted Adaptive Frequency™ Drives (AFD) on units up to 3,000 tons. A new Trane-supplied transformer package allows these low-voltage AFD chillers to operate in medium-voltage applications, significantly reducing unit and installation costs as well as square footage required in airports, universities, medical facilities and industrial applications. The Duplex CenTraVac chillers with Auxiliary Condensers recover waste heat and use the excess energy to preheat water for other processes, such as boiler makeup water, or for domestic hot water to serve laundry facilities, showers, or swimming pools. In addition to capturing energy that would otherwise be lost, the auxiliary condenser typically receives entering water temperatures lower than the standard cooling condenser, which increases chiller efficiency, and improves overall system efficiency by reducing heating requirements on the boiler. The new auxiliary condenser option enables Duplex chillers to be used on applications that require more than 1,500 tons. The range of Duplex chillers with ice storage has been expanded, including capacities up to approximately 2,500 tons. Duplex chillers with ice storage enable facilities to shift some or all chiller operation to nighttime run hours, reducing utility bills by running the chiller at a time when power demand is low.
