From the Yellow Chair Wins HVAC All-Stars Podcast Award
July 27, 2026SOMETHING DIFFERENT: Emily Fleniken (left) and Crystal Williams launched the “From the Yellow Chair” podcast in order to create something different for the HVAC and home services industry.
When Crystal Williams and Emily Fleniken launched the “From the Yellow Chair” podcast in November 2021, they set out to create something different for the HVAC and home services industry. While many industry podcasts focus on technical training and business tactics, Williams and Fleniken wanted to shine a light on the people behind the businesses — the leaders, teams, and stories that drive the trades forward.
That approach has resonated with listeners. With more than 200 episodes, over 91,000 downloads, and a growing audience across major podcast platforms, "From the Yellow Chair" has earned its place as the recipient of The ACHR NEWS’ HVAC All-Stars Podcast Award.
Natural Extension
The podcast is a natural extension of the work Williams and Fleniken do through Lemon Seed Marketing, where they help HVAC and home service contractors across North America build stronger, more profitable businesses.

Williams, co-owner and strategist at Lemon Seed, grew up in her family’s HVAC and plumbing business. That experience gave her firsthand exposure to the realities contractors face every day, from staffing challenges to seasonal ups and downs to managing growth. Today, she focuses on helping contractors build brands and strategies that support sustainable success.
Fleniken, Lemon Seed’s co-owner and creative director, brings experience in business operations, leadership, organizational development, graphic design, and brand storytelling. She oversees the execution side of the company, helping ensure that client strategies, systems, and teams work together to deliver results.
Together, they combine trade experience with marketing and branding expertise, a blend that has become a defining characteristic of “From the Yellow Chair.”
Inspiration
The podcast was inspired by the many conversations that Williams and Fleniken were having with contractors, manufacturers, distributors, and other industry leaders.
“We recognized that while there were plenty of podcasts focused on tactics and technical training, there were fewer conversations centered on the people behind the businesses,” said Williams.

The pair believed there was an opportunity to create a platform where listeners could hear authentic stories about marketing, brand building, culture, growth, and the lessons learned along the way. As Fleniken noted, “The trades are built on relationships, and we believed there was a meaningful need for deeper conversations — ones that inspired contractors not only to build better businesses, but also stronger teams and communities.”
Over time, the hosts have learned which topics resonate most with their audience. Episodes centered around leadership, company culture, and the strategic decisions that shape top-of-mind brands consistently generate the strongest response.
“Contractors today are navigating far more than equipment and operations,” said Williams. “They are leading people, building teams, developing cultures, and planning for the future. When guests openly share their successes, failures, and lessons learned, listeners see themselves in those stories. That honesty and vulnerability resonate because so many are facing the same challenges every day.

Some of the podcast’s most impactful moments have come when guests share the setbacks, difficult decisions, and pivotal decisions that changed the course of their businesses. Rather than focusing solely on accomplishments, those episodes reveal the human side of success.
“The episodes that leave the greatest impression are the ones where guests are willing to be transparent about their journey, because that kind of honesty is often where the greatest impact lives for listeners,” said Fleniken.
Authenticity
Indeed, that focus on authenticity is what helps distinguish “From the Yellow Chair” from many other industry podcasts. The show intentionally explores the intersection of marketing, branding, culture, leadership, business strategy, and the human side of the trades. Rather than serving as another technical training platform, it examines the conversations that happen between service calls, spreadsheets, and equipment installations.
“Our goal is to help contractors think differently about leadership, communication, hiring, retention, customer experience, and long-term business growth,” said Williams. “Listeners can expect practical ideas they can apply immediately, alongside the perspective and inspiration needed to lead their organizations more effectively.”
The podcast’s influence extends beyond audio content. It also serves as the centerpiece of a larger content ecosystem that includes Lemon Seed’s “Making Lemonade” newsletter and other educational resources designed to engage contractors and industry professionals.
According to the nomination submitted on behalf of the podcast, one of the show’s strengths is its ability to connect real-world trade experience with practical business and marketing insights. Guests frequently share candid accounts of what has worked — and what has not — allowing listeners to learn from their experiences without repeating the same mistakes.
Producing the podcast has also changed the hosts’ own perspectives on the industry. For Fleniken, the experience has deepened her appreciation for the innovation and resilience found throughout the trades. While HVAC and home services are often viewed primarily through the lens of equipment and service work, she said the podcast has highlighted the leadership, entrepreneurship, technology adoption, and community impact occurring every day.
Williams added that the conversations have reinforced her respect for contractors and the role they play in their communities. Beyond running businesses, contractors create careers, support families, solve problems, and provide essential services. Hearing those stories firsthand has strengthened the hosts’ commitment to serving the industry.
Recognition
Receiving an HVAC All-Stars Award is a meaningful recognition of that work. As Fleniken noted, “Receiving the award is deeply humbling, particularly because it comes from an industry we care deeply about and have dedicated much of our careers to serving.”
For both women, the honor represents more than Lemon Seed Marketing or the podcast itself. They view it as a reflection of the relationships they have built throughout the industry, the guests who have shared their experiences, the contractors who trust them, and the team members who contribute to their mission every day.
“Most importantly, it affirms our belief that sharing knowledge, encouraging leadership, and creating meaningful conversations can make a lasting impact on this industry,” said Williams. “We are honored to be part of that mission and grateful for every opportunity to continue serving the trades community.”
