TORONTO - A new Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Technical Subcommittee (TSC) has been formed to develop a new edition of CAN/CSA-P.6, Testing Method for Measuring Thermal and Operating Efficiencies of Gas-Fired Pool Heaters. The current P.6 standard was published in 1993 and was developed with technical guidance from the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) Standards Steering Committee on Gas Appliances and Related Accessories, which has since disbanded.
The standard will specify test equipment, test methods, and computations for thermal efficiency for forced circulation swimming pool heaters, as well as a test method for measuring electrical energy consumption. The intent of the new P.6 edition is to harmonize with the test procedures and energy efficiency levels currently required by the U.S. Department of Energy.
