September 15, 2000
Xcel Energy Inc.(Minneapolis, MN), formed recently by the merger of Minneapolis-based Northern States Power Co. and New Century Energies of Denver, CO, has added poultry litter to its roster of renewable energy sources. Xcel will purchase 50 megawatts of power from Fibrominn LLC, an affiliate of English company Fibrowatt. Using the company’s process for generating electricity by burning poultry litter, Minnesota affiliate Fibrominn plans to build and operate a plant that uses poultry litter as the primary fuel.
