Tougher Industries, Central Plumbing bought by PSEG

PSEG Energy Technologies announced the acquisition of two more mechanical contractors, Central Plumbing & Heating, Allentown, PA, and Tougher Industries, Albany, NY.

The two firms join seven other Northeast contractors who were recently acquired by PSEG Energy Technologies, whose parent company is Public Service Enterprise Group.

“The acquisition of Central and Tougher adds significantly to our geographic reach and service offerings,” said PSEG Energy Technologies president and ceo Stan Kosierowski. “Their solid base of customers provides us with a new, strong platform stretching from the Lehigh Valley region in Pennsylvania, to throughout New York state and southern New England.”

Contractors say they get backing

Central P&H has annual sales of approximately $20 million and employs 130 people in the Allentown and Reading, PA areas. The company provides hvac, fire protection, electrical, and plumbing design and construction services, and mechanical service to commercial-industrial clients in the Lehigh Valley region.

“Being a part of PSEG Energy Technologies allows us to move the business to the next level by dramatically expanding our ability to handle larger projects while adding new services such as project design, financing, and a full range of energy management services,” said Central president Russ Sweinhart.

Tougher Industries is a diversified mechanical contracting company that was founded in 1890. The company has annual sales of approximately $60 million and a staff of 350 based in offices in Albany and Poughkeepsie, NY.

In addition to mechanical construction, the company also provides sheet metal fabrication and insulation services to commercial-industrial customers.

“With the entrance of larger, well-funded, utility-affiliated competitors, our acquisition allows us to remain a leader by blending our local presence and technical expertise with the expanded services and strong financial backing provided by PSEG Energy Technologies,” said Tougher chairman Don McKay.

Headquartered in Edison, NJ, PSEG Energy Technologies provides industrial and commercial business customers with energy products and services designed to assist them in reducing energy costs and improving efficiency. The company currently serves more than 5,000 customers in the Northeast.
