Oct. 24, 2003: Revised NEMA Standard Available On CD-ROM

ROSSLYN, Va. - The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has released a CD-ROM version of its standard MG 1-2003, "Motors and Generators," fully revised for the first time since 1998.

According to NEMA, the standard provides more than 500 pages of manufacturing and performance data related to electric motors and generators. It is designed to assist users in the proper selection and application of motors and generators. The CD contains a PDF that is searchable and print-enabled. It is further enhanced with a linked table of contents, and references to other sections within the standard are also linked.

Included in MG 1-2003 is a section on NEMA Premiumâ„¢ Efficiency Motors with expanded information on short-time rated machines, and modifications in dimension tables and drawings. In addition, Part 5, "Classification of Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures for Rotating Machines," has been updated to align MG 1 with the IEC 60034-5 standard.

"The updating of the MG 1 standard to stay current with advances in technology and application requirements maintains the position of the NEMA MG 1 standard as the definitive standard for electric machines in North America," stated Roger Daugherty, chairman of NEMA's Medium Machines Subcommittee.

The MG 1-2003 CD-ROM, or a bound hard copy, may be purchased for $208 by visiting www.nema.org/r/std/mg1/, or by contacting Global Engineering Documents at 800-854-7179 (within the U.S.), 303-397-7956 (international), or 303-397-2740 (fax). A CD-ROM and hard copy set is available for $312. The CD-ROM can also be purchased in network configurations to support multiple users simultaneously.
