On Nov. 6, DuPont was awarded the National Medal of Technology, the highest honor for technological innovation in the United States. The award was presented for DuPont's technology and policy leadership in the phaseout and replacement of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). According to the company, it led research to gain scientific understanding of the environmental impact of CFCs and led the industry in the development of a series of alternative refrigerants for use in new and existing equipment. This is the fourth National Medal of Technology award that DuPont or one of its scientists have received in the last 13 years. In the photo above, President George W. Bush presents the National Medal of Technology to DuPont Chairman and CEO Charles O. Holliday Jr. during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House.
