The company’s major acoustical fiberglass-based product lines have been converted to a more earth-friendly core material. These fiberglass board and blanket materials are produced by Knauf, using its Ecose® technology. This new fiberglass production technology uses bio-based binder materials, replacing the nonrenewable petroleum-based chemicals used in traditional fiberglass binder, according to the company. This new manufacturing process reduces the embodied energy in the fiberglass binder by up to 70 percent, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the products - acoustical panels, baffles, noise curtains, and floor underlayments - made with fiberglass blankets and boards, says the manufacturer. The binder contains no phenol, formaldehyde, or acrylics. The fiberglass is certified by GREENGUARD Children and Schools™ for meeting low volatile organic compound emission requirements.
