Aug. 20, 2010: New Commercial Supermarket Refrigerant Receives R-407F Designation

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Honeywell has announced that its new commercial supermarket refrigerant, Genetron® Performax™ LT, has received the official designation of R-407F from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

ASHRAE designations assign safety classifications for refrigerants based on toxicity and flammability data. Genetron Performax LT is rated as “A1” by ASHRAE, indicating it has low toxicity and is non-flammable.

“This is the next step in widespread adoption of Genetron Performax LT as the preferred supermarket refrigerant,” said David Diggs, global business director for the refrigerants business of Honeywell Fluorine Products. “Honeywell continues to develop innovative solutions to meet our customers’ critical refrigeration needs. With lower global warming potential and improved energy efficiency, Genetron Performax LT is a great example of that.”

According to Honeywell, Genetron Performax LT is designed to provide superior refrigeration performance in both new equipment and equipment that uses R-22. The refrigerant provides similar performance to R-22, but requires fewer equipment modifications than other R-22 retrofit alternatives and offers improved energy efficiency versus other HFCs, said the company.

Frank Davis, refrigeration energy manager at Sprouts Farmers Markets in Phoenix has been using Genetron Performax LT in retrofits. “We were trying to find a refrigerant we could drop in and run the same as R-22. We looked at other proposals. Everyone else was proposing to change out valves. When we talked to Honeywell, they said with Performax LT we could use the same valves. That was a plus,” he said.

The refrigerant, which is manufactured at Honeywell’s refrigerant facility in Louisiana, is available through Honeywell Genetron wholesale suppliers. For more information, visit www.genetronperformaxlt.com.
