April 2, 2004: Carrier Announces Agreement With XDX
According to the companies, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration will make available the X-STREAM® and A.R.M.E.D.® technologies from XDX in Carrier's Beverage-Air, Russell Refrigeration, Cold Zone, Witt Refrigeration, Tyler Refrigeration, Kramer Refrigeration, Kelvinator, and International Cold Storage (ICS) branded refrigeration equipment lines.
The heat transfer process through use of the X-STREAM and A.R.M.E.D. technologies differs from the conventional direct-expansion feed of a standard refrigerant system, says XDX. The process uses a special valve to allow a thin coating of refrigerant to line the inside of the evaporator tubing, resulting in rapid removal of heat from the product or conditioned space, the company says. The system runs less and equipment performs better in this controlled manner of refrigerant feed, says the company.
The process is applicable to food service and restaurant refrigeration applications, supermarket and convenience store equipment, and ultra-low temperature storage.
According to XDX, independent laboratories have tested and documented energy savings of 18 percent to 24 percent using its process.
