Don Olson, senior product manager, Honeywell Analytics, introduced the new IAQPoint2 monitor, which will be available in March 2012.

CHICAGO — Honeywell Analytics hosted a press conference at the AHR Expo to introduce its new IAQPoint2 monitor. The touchscreen monitor will be available in March and is designed for commercial buildings. It is capable of monitoring three parameters: carbon dioxide or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), as well as temperature and humidity.

According to Don Olson, senior product manager, “IAQPoint2 is a LEED-accredited device, a green building solution that can make a major contribution to boosting energy efficiency. Through its link to the building automation system via a communications protocol such as BACnet, IAQPoint2 activates the ventilation system on-demand, bringing just the right amount of fresh air into a building space.”

Olson also discussed many of the reasons why IAQ monitoring is becoming more of a concern. He described Sick Building Syndrome, noting it can be common in new construction due to VOCs, as well as the negative effects of poor ventilation and increased carbon dioxide levels on building occupants.

“By using demand-controlled ventilation, IAQPoint2 helps avoid the common problems of either under-ventilating a building space, which leads to poor indoor air quality, or over-ventilating a building space, which increases the building’s operating costs. IAQPoint2’s on-demand ventilation advantage helps a building’s entire ventilation system run more efficiently, extending HVAC component life and lowering building operating costs,” he said.
