MoreARLINGTON, Va. — The deadline for submitting an application to the Clifford H. “Ted” Rees Jr. Scholarship Program is Nov. 1, 2003. The Rees Scholarship Foundation was established by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) to award scholarships of up to $2,000 to students enrolled in HVACR programs. Two letters of recommendation from present or past employers, present or former teachers, or other professionals. Submission of the applicant's prior education, work history/military service. A typewritten personal statement letter of 150-200 words explaining why the applicant would like to be considered for the Rees Scholarship.
The scholarship is named for Clifford H. “Ted” Rees Jr., who served as president of ARI from 1994 through 2001. The foundation awarded the first two scholarships in August to Paula Pogge, a student at Vatterott College in Omaha, Neb., and Daniel Kent Parker, who attends Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, Texas.
Students are eligible for scholarships if they attend, or plan to attend, an HVACR training program at an institutionally accredited school. They must be a United States citizen, national or resident alien (resident aliens must include a letter of the nominee's intent to become a United States citizen and a photocopy of the Alien Registration Card) in preparation for a career in either residential air conditioning and heating, light commercial air conditioning and heating, or commercial refrigeration as an entry-level technician.
