McQuay International: Self-Contained Unit Ventilators

The AAF®-HermanNelson® self-contained unit ventilators come in multiple configurations, which allow specifiers to select the unit ventilator that best meets the application required. They are ideal for installation in primary schools as they typically fit the same space occupied by existing units, says the company. New two-stage compressors allow the units to run on lower fan speeds up to 70 percent of the time, improving comfort through better humidity control and quieter operation, while minimizing issues with oversizing. The unit ventilators deliver required amounts of fresh air to meet ventilation requirements prescribed in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Standard 62.1-1999 and added cooling capacity to maintain consistent comfort for students and teachers. Control options, including economizer operation, demand control ventilation (DVC) and part load, variable air allow school facilities managers to match classroom comfort requirements even more closely, and reduce operating costs. The unit ventilators use R-410a refrigerant.
