May 19, 2010: Delmar Publishes Going Green With the International Residential Code

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - Delmar Cengage Learning has announced the publication of Going Green with the International Residential Code®, aimed at building and construction professionals. This is the second book in Delmar’s Green Destination Series, which focuses on green building concepts.

Authored by Scott Caulfield, the book is intended to bridge the gap between green building and residential building codes. It takes green building concepts and shows how they specifically relate to the International Residential Code, as developed by the International Code Council (ICC). According to Delmar, the book is ideal for professionals who want to go green while ensuring they properly follow building codes.

“Construction professionals who want to begin green building projects are often unsure how residential building codes will impact their project,” said Greg Clayton, vice president, Delmar. “Using real-life examples of green construction techniques, Going Green demonstrates how the residential code affects green building procedures, enabling construction professionals to be fully prepared for the accommodations that will need to be made throughout the course of a building project.”

The book begins with a residential code primer that explores basic permitting and regulatory processes, and offers insight into the operation of a building department for anyone seeking building permits. It also facilitates more accurate, reduced-risk planning and implementation by identifying the impact of code requirements on green construction both before and after work begins. This section also examines green and alternative construction materials and methods. The book then moves into a chapter-by-chapter review of the International Residential Code and identifies where provisions of the code will affect a green construction project, as well as where in a project there are green options that may not otherwise be known or readily spotted.
