ARLINGTON, Va. — Combined U.S. factory shipments of 382,545 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for January were up 5 percent compared to shipments from the same month last year, according to Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) statistics.

Heat pump shipments for January of 112,609 were up 12 percent compared to last January.

January 2003 distributor shipments were up 8 percent from January 2002.
