January A/C Shipments Up From Last Year
ARLINGTON, VA — According to the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI), combined U.S. factory shipments of 364,331 central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for January 2002 were up 2% compared to shipments from the same month last year. Also, heat pump shipments of 100,163 were up 9% compared to January 2001.
January 2002 factory stocks were up 38,765 units from December 2001 and down 232,415 units from January 2001. Distributor inventories for January 2002 were up 38,187 units from December 2001 and down 153,073 units from January 2001. January 2002 distributor shipments were down 8% from January 2001.
