The company will begin production and distribution of NU-22, a direct replacement for HCFC 22, this month. The refrigerant blend, with a zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), nearly duplicates the operating pressures and capacity of R-22, says the manufacturer. NU-22 is non-toxic and nonflammable, with an ASHRAE designation and safety classification of A1, and is compatible with all standard system oils. The company says
NU-22 does not require any oil change or system modification to be used in an existing R-22-based system. The refrigerant blend is suitable for use in screw, rotary, reciprocating, semi-hermetic, and hermetic compressors.
