Fortune 500 Firms and EPA Combine for Green Power
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the start of its Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program “aimed at boosting the market for power alternatives that reduce the environmental and health risks of conventional electricity generation.” The founding partners, which include 20 of the Fortune 500 firms, are making a commitment to purchase more than 280,000 MW-hours of green power over the next year. It is estimated that this will prevent the emission of 200,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
