Florida Utility Gets Into The Home Repair Business

Florida Power has come up with what it calls Appliance Service Plus, as a projection for major home appliances like refrigerators, furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters.

The utility has teamed up with GE-Zurich Warranty Management, Inc. to offer authorized repair services as part of the program, which is underwritten by American Zurich Insurance Co.

With the program, customers choose the level of protection they want. Starting at $16.99 each month, Appliance Service Plus protects a household's refrigerator, oven, built-in microwave, built-in dishwasher and clothes washer and dryer, regardless of brand name.

If a covered appliance breaks down, the customer can call a toll-free repair phone number. After verifying coverage, a GE-authorized repair representative will visit the customer's home for flat service fee of $50 to make repairs. If the appliance can't be repaired, it will be replaced with a comprable one.

For an additional fee each month, Florida Power customers can upgrade Appliance Service Plus coverage to include water heaters, heating and cooling systems, wiring, and plumbing.

Florida Power customers customers can call, toll-free, 888-999-8856, for more information.
