A performance contract applies facility improvements that are funded by the energy and operational savings that they create. Through this performance contract with Johnson Controls, the district will be able to reallocate more than $4 million in additional funds to implement other changes to the schools.

The 10-year, $3.8 million contract involves various HVAC renovations, enhanced lighting, and new restroom equipment in several of the schools, and the installation of a Johnson Controls Metasys building management system. The contract also includes replacing several terminal units that provide ventilation within the classrooms, as well as HVAC piping for North Marion High School.

"Our number one goal at Marion County Schools is student achievement," said Dr. James Phares, superintendent, Marion County Schools. "A comfortable learning environment is critical to helping our students achieve their best."

Marion County said it selected Johnson Controls for the project based on the company's experience, technical capability, and strong service delivery. The company has been servicing Marion County Schools since the early 1900s, when the district needed traditional HVAC controls installed in the schools.
