Expo Provides Showcase For Heat Exchangers

By Kyle Gargaro
February 24, 2005
ORLANDO, Fla. - With more than 1,800 exhibiting companies, the 2005 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) had a little something for everyone. That includes individuals who were looking for the latest in heat exchangers and coils.

Heat Exchangers

Alfa Laval (www.alfalaval.com) introduced the AlfaNova 14 fusion plate heat exchanger. The AlfaNova is made of 100-percent stainless steel.

The heating surface consists of thin, corrugated metal plates stacked on top of each other. Channels are formed between the plates and corner ports are arranged so that the two media flow through alternate channels, always in countercurrent flow, the company said.

Sunil Raina, vice president/general manager of Turbotec Products Inc., stands with the titanium coaxial heat exchanger.
According to the manufacturer, the media are kept in the unit by a bonded seal around the edge of the plates. The contact point of the plates are bonded to withstand the pressure of the media handled.

Doucette Industries Inc. (www.doucetteindustries.com) showed off the company's new liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. It is designed for highly efficient heat transfer covering a wide variety of liquid types. The hydronic series is not sensitive to debris clogging because of its large fluid circuits and is mechanically cleanable on the tube side circuit, according to the company.

Its applications include snow melt, freeze protection, domestic hot water, industrial processes, district heating facility, solar energy, and cogeneration.

Turbotec (www.turbotecproducts.com) promises "the ultimate in the science of thermal exchange" with the titanium coaxial heat exchanger series. The company believes the commercially pure titanium maximizes heating performance and efficiency.

The tubing is twisted to increase surface area. This makes the titanium coils an easy fit for most applications, according to the manufacturer.

The company was also promoting the fact the product was 40 percent to 50 percent lighter than traditional coaxial heat exchanger designs and that the copper refrigerant-side connection are designed for easy installation.

Coils

Super Radiator Coils (www.srcoils.com) showcased its new spiral wrapped coils. The features include seven to 12 fins per inch with various fin heights, 5/8-inch and 1-inch OD tube diameters with standard and heavy wall thicknesses available, varied tube centers to meet replacement coil criteria, custom coil shapes, replacement of leaking tubes, tin-coated fins, and cost-effective coil designs.

Among Heatcraft's (www.heatcraft.com) new products are desaturation coils. The two coils in one is a combination cooling-reheat coil in one common case that will both dehumidify the air and reheat that same air to the desired leaving air temperature and humidity level in comfort cooling applications.
