The Z-Duct®-SPL (Sensible Plus Latent) plate heat exchanger offers recovery efficiencies of up to 75%, says the manufacturer. The counterflow heat exchanger has no moving parts and uses a blend of desiccants in a synthetic fiber media. The design reduces the potential for air leakage by eliminating one-half the seals found in conventional crossflow heat exchangers, the company says. The unit transfers heat and moisture between supply and exhaust air to precool and predehumidify outdoor air in the summer, and preheat and prehumidify outdoor air in the winter.
