DAVIS, Calif. - A new engineering series from UC Davis Extension provides in-depth, hands-on instruction in the HVACR systems design field, with an emphasis on practical application to commercial buildings. The series targets architects, engineers, construction managers, planners, commissioning agents, building owners, operators, and contractors. Participants who complete the series will be able to design an HVACR system. The first two courses will be held January-June in Sacramento, Calif.

HVACR Systems Design I covers the refrigeration cycle process, the fundamental HVACR system types installed in commercial buildings, calculating loads and sizing, selecting air conditioning equipment, air distribution devices and duct work, and chilled and hot water piping systems. This three-unit course will run Jan. 17-March 2.

HVACR Systems Design II presents more complex HVACR commercial systems. Participants will learn how to set up a building model to perform room-by-room heating and cooling load calculations, how to size and select equipment using EnergyPro software on MS Windows for Title 24 compliance, and the methods used to prepare energy calculations. This three-unit course will run April 4-June 6.
