WASHINGTON, DC — According to preliminary U.S. Census data, only 32.3% of 18- to 24-year-old Americans bothered to vote in the year 2000 election.

In 1972, approximately 50% of 18- to 24-year-olds voted. That number has been decreasing since then, and has now reached an all time low.
