Standard 1160-2004 establishes for heat pump pool heaters: definitions; classifications; test requirements; rating requirements; minimum data requirements for published ratings; operating requirements; marking and nameplate data; and conformance conditions. This standard applies to the rating and testing of complete factory-made heat pump pool heaters.

ARI standards establish rating criteria and procedures for measuring and certifying product performance. In this way, products are rated on a uniform basis, so that buyers and users can properly make selections for specific applications.

Standard 1160-2004 was developed by ARI's Heat Pump Pool and Spa Heaters Product Section, one of the association's newer sections, approved for membership by the board of directors in November 2002.
