Carrier Corp.: Variable-Speed Screw Chiller

The Evergreen® 23XRV variable-speed screw chiller, with Foxfire™ compression technology and R-134a non-ozone depleting refrigerant in series counter-flow, has improved chiller plant efficiency by more than 10 percent when compared with high-efficiency variable-speed centrifugal alternatives, says the manufacturer. The air-side design, which features chilled beams and dedicated outside air units, allows for separation of latent and sensible cooling, significantly reducing cfm requirements and fan energy. Combining a decoupled direct outside air system with active chilled beams can help the series counterflow chiller plant achieve higher efficiency through higher chilled-water delta-t and reduced chiller lift.
