Letters From Our Readers: Aug. 13, 2012

Editor’s Note: This letter is in response to Tony Owens’ comments “Money Is a Downside to Recertification,” July 16, 2012.

The Real Price of NATE Recertification

NATE testing and certification allows technicians to demonstrate their ongoing ability to perform at the industry’s highest standards. Not only is it important for HVACR technicians to obtain NATE certification, it’s equally important to maintain it. The HVACR industry changes constantly, and advancements in engineering require professionals to constantly update their knowledge and information about the industry.

Recertification, which is required every five years, may be achieved by retaking a specialty exam before a certification lapses, or by completing 60 continuing education hours pertinent to a technician’s specialty.

NATE offers a tiered pricing structure for recertification with continuing education hours. The cost to recertify an individual specialty is $95. For multiple recertifications done at the same time, NATE offers discounted pricing: two recertifications cost $125, three recertifications cost $150, four recertifications cost $175 and five or more recertifications cost $200.

For more information about recertification, visit the Recertification section at natex.org.
