White House Selects Metrus Energy for Better Buildings Challenge

SAN FRANCISCO - Metrus Energy Inc., which provides financing for large-scale energy efficiency projects, has announced its selection as a financial partner under the White House’s Better Buildings Challenge (BBC) and as a Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action participant. The BBC is a newly implemented program of the White House’s Better Buildings Initiative.

The Better Buildings Initiative, announced by President Obama in February, is an effort to improve energy efficiency in commercial buildings across the country. The Initiative aims to make commercial buildings 20 percent more energy efficient by 2020, to reduce the nation’s energy bills by approximately $40 billion per year, and to reform outdated incentives and tax codes.

Metrus plans to finance more than $50 million in projects over the coming 18 months to help the BBC meet its goals. Metrus will be supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in identifying customers that can best benefit from Metrus’ services, which span the financing, implementation, and maintenance of efficiency upgrades with no upfront cost.

“Our selection in the Better Buildings Challenge highlights that Metrus’ energy efficiency financing solutions are both proven and scalable,” said Metrus CEO Bob Hinkle. “We are pleased to work with the impressive group of BBC partners. Together, we will help transform the efficiency marketplace by demonstrating how businesses can treat energy efficiency as a resource.”

Other participants named in the BBC include the DOE, major financial institutions, and national commercial property owners.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Metrus Energy provides capital, project development, and ongoing asset management services for energy efficiency projects at large commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. For more information, visit www.metrusenergy.com.
