Web sites for business management answers

SEATTLE, WA — New Web sites touted as the “first comprehensive e-business service specifically designed for smaller construction and subcontracting firms,” are under development and are expected to be available in June 2000.

SmartContractor, a new provider of Internet-based solutions to construction industry’s business management needs, is designed to help subcontractors increase jobsite productivity and lower procurement and administrative costs.

The company expects to have a trade-specific Beta version of an e-marketplace for electrical contractors, Smart Electrical.com, up and running in April. The initial core construction trades to be serviced by SmartContractor include electrical, hvac, mechanical, and plumbing.

Application services via Internet B2B will enable contractors to perform business tasks such as job estimating, invoicing, permit management, bid preparation, and others.

“We see a tremendous opportunity to bring greater efficiency to the construction trades through our e-business service,” said Carl Albrecht, SmartContractor ceo. “[Small contractors] have not previously had access to the same sophisticated software tools and productivity applications as the bigger companies.”
