• Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. (RG&E; Rochester, NY) announces a cash rebate program to help its heating customers deal with expected higher prices for natural gas. RG&E will provide a $10 rebate to any customer who purchases an automatic setback thermostat between October 1 and November 30. Customers who purchase their natural gas from another supplier are also eligible. Coupons to claim the rebate will be available at area home supply and hardware stores, from heating contractors, and in the utility’s monthly bill insert.   • Unitil Corp. (Hampton, NH) announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Unitil/Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light Co. (FG&E) has filed for a gas rate increase that would go into effect from November 1, 2000 to April 30, 2001. A typical residential heating customer will see an increase of 11.5% over last winter's rates. Similar impacts will be seen for commercial and industrial customers.
