MoreCalifornia State University, Hayward plans to install a solar electric system, which will deliver 1.05 MW of energy, which represents approximately 30 percent of the campus’ peak electricity demand during the summer months.
The system, built by California-based PowerLight, will cover over 110,000 square feet and will feature rooftop and round-mounted installations. Buildings targeted for the installation include Physical Education, Music, and Business, and Meiklejohn Hall. Ground-mounted solar tracking systems will be installed in an unused field. According to the university, the project is expected to reduce the campus’ electric bill by $200,000 annually. Construction on the project is expected to finish this month.
