Trane Helps School District Improve IAQ, Save Energy

ELKTON, Ky. - The Todd County (Ky.) Board of Education partnered with the Trane Co. on a $1.4 million project to update the HVAC systems in four of its schools.

In an article in the Kentucky New Era, Board of Education Superintendent David Eakles said, "We'd been receiving a lot of complaints about poor air quality in the classrooms, and our energy bills were very high." After talking with other districts about the situation, Trane was contacted.

The contract between the school district and Trane also provides for maintenance on the new HVAC systems. Trane said that each dollar the district spends on the new systems will come back in energy savings.

"If we don't see $1.4 million in savings in the next 15 years, it's in the contract that Trane would have to pay the difference," Eakles told the New Era.

"I've received a lot of e-mails from parents and teachers thanking us for the improvements," he said.
