The Xchanger is an energy-saving fan capable of automatically and simultaneously ridding basements or other areas of stale, musty, or smelly air and drawing in fresh outside air. The fan is installed in an outside wall and features two reversible 90-cfm fans that can be positioned to move air in either direction. The user can utilize the fan in three ways: (1) exhaust air from the interior, (2) draw outside air into the home, or (3) reverse one fan for balanced air exchange with no bypass from either airstream. The company says although the initial cost of the fan is comparable to a dehumidifier, the dual fans in the unit only use 35 W of electricity. Optional accessories available are a timer control, fan speed control, and a duct takeoff for use when the fan is not located in the room being ventilated. Besides basement installations, other applications include supplying makeup air for stoves and fireplaces, ventilating storage areas and garages, and maintaining fresh interior air in cabins during long vacancy periods.
