The company garnered the award for its work on a 23,500-sq-ft residence in Ketchum, ID.

According to the RPA, the home has 25 zones of control powered by two natural gas Lochinvar CHN0651 multi-stage boilers. Each zone is broken down into nine second-stage heat/air-conditioning zones, and each zone has wall-mounted sensors with touch pads located in the mechanical room and tied into a Lutron whole-house management system. This means that many of the home functions can be operated using an LED pad; this includes operation of lights, fans, heating and air conditioning, and sound systems.

A number of systems had to be installed, including two multi-stage boilers in case one should go out of service. Each boiler is equipped with three stages of firing which is controlled by a tekmar 262 staging control. A 353 tekmar injection control was used to modify the temperature in the floors. Also, 25 Enerzone Enerstats were used, 15 of which were single stage and 10 of which were two stage.

Another highlight of the project is the 16,000-sq-ft snow melting system, which was installed in the driveway, courtyard, front stairs, terrace, multiple patios, second-floor bedroom decks, and in two large mechanical areas.

“Our philosophy for a project of this scope was that there had to be an organized plan before the first screw went in,” said John Mills of American Heating. “This project was both enjoyable and challenging.”
