A new pad is available for use with radiant floor heating systems and snowmelt applications that are set in concrete. The pad coats foil with a white poly surface to offer protection from the lime in curing concrete and from any long-term damage to foil that potentially could occur from the high alkaline content in the soil, the manufacturer states. According to the company, the use of this product reduces or eliminates ground water intrusion in the slab, which reduces the performance of a radiantly heated slab. The company states that the aluminum foil acts as a heat conductor, allowing radiant energy to spread out under the slab, improving the system’s performance.
