Project Files: Military Academy

COMPANY: Linc Services LLC, Washington, D.C.

INSTALLATION: Linc Services Bundled Energy Solutions

COMPLETION: Fall 2010

CUSTOMER: Massanutten Military Academy (MMA), Woodstock, Va.

OBJECTIVE: To improve the overall quality of learning and residence life for the cadets.

DESCRIPTION: The MMA is one of the oldest and proudest military academies in the United States, with many of its buildings dating back to the 1800s. This is a source of pride and heritage, but the older facilities have also created significant challenges. When MMA management realized its central plant and other buildings’ infrastructure had reached the end of their useful life, they made the decision to modernize and improve comfort conditions in the most environmentally responsible way. They turned to Linc Services as their partner in a project to renovate six campus buildings with Linc Services Bundled Energy Solutions. Renovations include installing new high-efficiency lighting, new heating and cooling systems, and centralized control systems; recommissioning systems; replacing and upgrading mechanical systems; and incorporating water conservation measures. Additionally, the project will save MMA more than $6.7 million in energy and operational costs over the course of 15 years.

“What makes this project especially gratifying is its environmental impact and its promise of making our historic buildings more sustainable.”
- Craig Jones, MMA head of school
