PECI Recognizes ASHRAE

ATLANTA — The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) was recognized for its work in building commissioning, including standards development, education, and research.

The Benner Award, given by Portland Energy Conservation Inc. (PECI) in memory of Nancy Benner, was presented to ASHRAE at the National Conference on Building Commission in Palm Springs, Calif.

The award, given for outstanding achievement in making building commissioning “business as usual,” recognizes individuals and programs/organizations that have engaged in educational, demonstration, policy, or actual commissioning activities that successfully promote building commissioning.

The nomination states, “ASHRAE has been the key organization in developing the commissioning process for the delivery of quality construction projects to meet the owner’s needs.” According to ASHRAE, its efforts were initiated to improve the delivery of HVAC systems and have been expanded to all building systems and assemblies under ASHRAE and National Institute of Building Science leadership.

The nomination also stated that “All commissioning process projects have relied on information from ASHRAE for their scope, structure, and tools used.”
